2016. Frequency of Familial Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Results From the PSC Partners Patient Registry

A review of our PSC patient population and the relative risk of familial IBD and PSC was conducted with data from the Registry. Of the 600+ participants reviewed, 11 (1.6%) reported having a sibling with PSC and 36 (5.1%) patients reported having a sibling with IBD. Higher rates of familial IBD were found in PSC patients that also had IBD compared to PSC patients that did not have an IBD diagnosis. In contrast there was no change in familial risk of PSC in either population (PSC/IBD vs PSC alone). This is expected as there is a well studied familial risk of IBD. Understanding genetic influences may lead to new insights into the underlying mechanism of PSC.
