PSC frequently affects reproductive-aged women, but the impact of PSC on pregnancy is not well studied. Investigators reviewed patient reported pregnancy outcomes including birth height & weight, duration of hospital stay, birth defects, medication use and more. The study found that women with PSC have fewer pregnancies compared to women without PSC of a similar age, and cholangitis occurs in almost 10% of PSC pregnancies. Although pregnancy loss is not greater in PSC, preterm birth and NICU stay is higher in children of PSC mothers. More research is needed to better understand how PSC impacts women of reproductive age.
